I Have Let Myself Down…

If I could separate me from myself, I'd stay away from me.

All this talk about getting into shape. All this work over the past 3 years. All the blog posts. All the tweets. All the Facebook posts. They all mean a little less right now. I have tried so hard to live better, to BE better.

Here I sit. Feeling horrible. I haven't worked out in what feels like forever. I have been eating like shit. I am NOT the person I pushed myself to become. I am depressed. I am sad. The worst part is - I am not really sure why.

Maybe it's time that I refocus on me and why I started this. Maybe it's time that I put down the snacks and hit the treadmill again. While it's true that I am tired from working so much lately, it's no excuse.

I can do this. I can do better. I can get back on track. I NEED to get back on track. I WANT to get back on track.

Screw you 8.8lbs. I am coming for you.

Parenting Tip #1: Don’t Worry… Go Country!

It has come to my attention that I thus far have neglected to share with you any stories of mayhem regarding my loving and crazy experiences with my 11 year old daughter... lol. So begins a new category here at Retroactiv: Parenting 101. I have so many great stories to tell, but for today, without further adieu, I bring you Parenting Tip #1.

Parenting Tip #1: Don't worry if your child gives you shit when they are getting ready for school. Rise above it. Your the adult - maybe. Lol. Nothing corrects negative behavior like rocking some K105 Country on the way to school. That and be sure to tell them "Y'all have a splendid day - I luv yins!" when you drop them off. This seemed rather effective today, and it scored an 8.5 on the "eye-roll-at-dad-as-he-drives-away" scale.

I also belted out a "Yee Haw!" when I left the parking lot. She was already inside though. That one was for me. :)

Why Some People Won’t Be Happy That You Lost Weight

The HatersHave you lost weight recently? Have you? I bet you have if you're reading this. And if you have - you can bet that I am happy for you! But be warned that not everyone will be.

What?!?! "Why would anyone NOT be happy that I am taking steps to improve my well being?" you might ask. That's easy. Losing weight is a journey that most Americans are NOT ready to take. We like our junk food and eating whatever we want - which is why we are the fattest country in the world.

For every person who is super supportive of your new mission and wants to hear all about it, you're going to be faced with others who seem to be angry at you. They are angry because they think they "can't" do it. They are angry because they "can't" control their cravings. And mostly  - they are angry cuz those jeans you just bought (which are two sizes smaller than the last pair) look bad ass on you. ;)

The point? Make sure you are prepared for the people who won't be excited for you. They will easy to spot. Don't let them make you feel bad for taking control of your life. You should be proud. You should shout it from every mountain.

Keep pushing. Keep working. Keeping running.  :)

Believe in Yourself

This is a guest post by my friend Jon Luciano. We crossed paths via Twitter when I saw a tweet by Jon that started our friendship off through some encouragement and a common goal. Since then, Jon and I have continued to support each other through the trials and tribulations of our journeys. Please check out the post below, and be sure to visit his blog at extreme-workout.com and follow him on Twitter at @jonluciano. Oh, and by the way, though he is a HUGE Broncos fan, this is NOT his car... Regardless of what @freitag might say...  :)

Losing weight is tough and certainly presents a number of challenges. There are challenges around every corner along the weight loss journey. Before you embark on the journey you are faced with a challenge….starting! The first step is always the most difficult. It is also the most rewarding. I would bet that if a bunch of people who have lost weight were polled and asked when they took the first step to their new life, every one of them could tell you the exact date. I know I can: February 24, 2010.
